World Association of

Girl Guides and Girl Scouts

As a member of Girl Guiding in your country, you are also part of the world’s largest organisation for females – with more than 10 million members - the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS). WAGGGS is dedicated to enriching the lives of girls and women and around the world. World Conferences are held every 3 years and two delegates from member organisations are invited to participate. Here decisions are made, by voting, on policies and standards for the next 3 years. World Board is made up of 17 members from around the world who are elected at the World Conference. Each Region elects a Chair every 3 years and the 5 Chairs also sit on the Board. World Bureau is the secretariat of the Association– similar to our National Office- and is based in London.

APR

Asia Pacific Region

WAGGGS works through its 5 Regions: Western Hemisphere, Africa, Arab, Europe and Asia Pacific. FGGA is part of the Asia Pacific Region which in 2017 comprised 26 countries and 3.6 million members. Asia Pacific Regional Conferences are held every 3 years and key leaders from member organisations are invited to participate and celebrate achievements over the past 3 years and discuss strategies and plans for the next 3 years. Asia Pacific Regional Committee comprises 6 volunteers from member organisations elected at the Asia Pacific Conference and works closely with regional staff to deliver plans for the region.

Fiji Girl Guides Association

The Patron is the First Lady of Fiji. The Board provides governance oversight of the Association and strategic and specialist advice. It comprises between 5-7 elected and appointment members.

The Management Team makes decisions about the day to day operations of the Association and comprises 5 regional and 3 key national Leaders. All except the National Officer leader are elected. The National Office supports regional activities and is based in Suva.

Divisions support the running of the Association and programmes in the regions. Currently there are 5 Divisions: North, Southern, Central, Western and Eastern.

Depending on size and geography Divisions may be subdivided into Provinces and Districts, each with their own leader (previously known as Commissioners).

The structure and members will change overtime as new elections are held and changes are made to meet the changing needs of members and the Association, so to keep up -to-date it is important to attend regional events and the annual general meetings and keep in touch using the FGGA Facebook page for Leaders.

FIJI GUIDING UNITS

Girl Guiding units in Fiji can be based in schools or communities. There are four different age groups for guiding:

Pippins are 7 years or younger

Brownies are 7 - 11 years

Guides are 11 - 14 years

Rangers are 15 - 18+ years

Leaders of each unit are adults, and may be teachers, teacher assistants or Community volunteers.

All units (whether run in the community or in schools), their Leaders and girl members must all be registered to be called a Guide member and run or participate in camps and wear the Guide uniform.
